A NYC ICU COVID nurse. Her story behind this image in her own words: “This photo was taken after the worst shift I have ever worked and will ever work. I had gone home to vomit due to the intense migraine I had at the time. I do not commonly get migraines. That night was 13 hours of fuzz, stress, sweat, fear, and tears. I assisted in wrapping four bodies, moved them out without the proper love and ceremony amongst family we hope to provide, and prepared for another patient to come in and probably end in the same result. We ran, we pushed down our fears, we grabbed the hands of scared patients trapped in their own nightmare, and attempted to treat a virus that had an individual plan...with no mercy. This photo was taken after the night in which New York City lost over 800 people to Covid. I felt alone and scared but little did I know, across the city, all the healthcare workers were doing the same. I woke up after I slept and went to do it again.”

I'm painting my back yard and the world beyond. Familiar, everyday sights that may only get a peripheral, passing glimpse. In-the-moment scenes… a yard sale, a backyard tree house, or a new house foundation under construction and filled with potential. Signs of prior lives… a centuries old, crumbling foundation who's long gone owner held that same potential as today’s builder, a cemetery reclaimed by the woods. Trying to guide the viewer to think in a deeper way, to realize our connection to each other, our environment, our past, and our future. Also re-connecting with an abstract, color-field series from the early 2000's, with inspiration drawn from land and sky and the abstract expressionist movement. In between all that, plein air painting when I can. Nothing beats painting from life. Born and raised in Vermont, currently living in Massachusetts.
