About The Artwork

On June 6th 1944, D-Day, the Allies landed around 156,000 troops in Normandy. 73,000 American (23,250 on Utah Beach, 34,250 on Omaha Beach, and 15,500 airborne troops), 83,115 British and Canadian (61,715 of them British) with 24,970 on Gold Beach, 21,400 on Juno Beach, 28,845 on Sword Beach, and 7,900 airborne troops. Over 425,000 Allied and German troops were killed or wounded during the battle of Normandy. This figure includes over 209,000 Allied casualties. I painted this piece for a reflection on all of the soldiers who sacrificed so much during the invasion of Normandy. My grandfather landed on Omaha Beach, where the fighting was most intense. He was one of the lucky survivors. I painted the Canadian flag, American flag, and Britain's flag with one of their soldiers standing beneath. This piece was painted on 16x20 inch canvas board with acrylic paint. I hope you enjoy my work!

Elko Nevada based artist, Brady Nielson, grew up in Utah and began painting and drawing at a young age. He continued improving his artistic talents through high school but put them on hold when he entered college. Over the next decade he worked toward degrees and certificates in several fields including geology, geographic information systems, and mining engineering while taking a couple of art classes along the way. During his time as a student he married and had 3 beautiful children, with another addition arriving just recently. A couple of months before landing his first job as an engineer, his unknowing wife laughed when she caught him binge-watching Bob Ross episodes, as it was the last thing she expected this scientifically-minded, outdoor enthusiast to be interested in. A few months later he started painting again and his wife began to understand his interest in Bob Ross and art as she watched him unveil this hidden talent! He has now been painting professionally for 2 years and enjoys inspiring others with his works of art. He has won several art competitions and awards, as well as multiple prizes including Grand Champion at the 2019 Elko County Fair. He also shows his work at Clearly Nevada, a new local art gallery here in Elko City.
