About The Artwork
Christmas spirit is an abstract painting inspired by the festivities at Christmas time 2016 and the music of Tony Bennett that I was listening to at the time. The layer of clay is applied to the canvas before an array of blues and purples are dragged across using palette knives, creating a high impact and intricate composition. As this painting was made for a friend, some of the colours were influenced by her home. The additional colours, close up details and the direction of paint application were guided by the music. I love the combination of colours in this composition and that they look balanced and not too overwhelming because of the addition of white and exposed clay.
