This is a pond at the edge of a very boggy meadow that used to belong to a friend living in S W Scotland. Filled with natural growing shrubs and trees, tall waving spindly grasses, and narrow pathways made by small animals, I think of it as a Wild Garden. As such, it has formed the inspiration for a series of paintings. This is the latest addition to that series. At the edge of the Wild Garden, one can see across the pond to the far distant hills. They always have this beautiful blue colour and presented themselves as a marvellous subject - once I had found a sturdy bit of ground to stand on. I can only make sketchbook paintings here because the ground underfoot is so boggy, but that sketchbook work has proved the great source of inspiration for all the paintings. I hope you will have enjoyed looking at this picture as much as I enjoyed painting it ! Please note that this painting is unframed. Dimensions 36x24inches, the artwork ships well protected by packaging inside a robust cardboard box.

www.chrissiehavers.com Represented by Cambridge Contemporary Art. The landscape is my main source of subject for painting - particularly the orderly impact on the landscape of human habitation and farming. The framework imposed by fencing hedges ditches etc and the impact these divisions have on the land is always interesting. Colours lent to the land for a few months by growing crops is another element. The rather harsh lemon of the rape or mustard crops, the cool blue of a linseed field, the effervescent mixture of echinacea flowers - all these colours provide problems for an artist. While they are very dramatic , visually they don’t sit well with the native trees and hedge colours, but I am drawn to them as a subject on exactly that account. This is what inspires my work - colour.
