About The Artwork
Elements of the natural world provide inspiration for many of my paintings. This depiction of sea and sky was inspired by living for several decades in a Northern California coastal town. I am influenced by the many moods of the sea, the sky that changes from the clearest blue to gray and threatening, and the winter storms that bring waves crashing onto the sandy beaches and the rocky shore.

Growing up in New York City was a great experience and has influenced my outlook on art and life. There was amazing access to museums and other cultural institutions and the energy of the city was always present. I have lived in California for many years now where I am close to both a major urban area and the beautiful Pacific Ocean, surrounded by incredible natural beauty. I am able to draw from many cultures for inspiration that influences my artwork, such as the Japanese concepts of wabi sabi and notan, and of haiku poetry. My series of Haiku Threads paintings reflect that influence.
