About The Artwork
Years ago I created a series of small drawings with conte crayon, that demonstrated and achieved my vision of form, shape, angle, variation of direction and movement, contrast, shadow, structure, design, harmony, and composition. One of these 8 drawings from this series inspired me as a prototype to express its’ elegant composition with all the artistic attributes I just mentioned above, and it lives on in this painting. The creative challenge when I approached beginning this painting was to recreate the integrity of the drawing and translate all these elements with acrylic paints into color. Using my paints, my intention was to expand the vision of this one drawing and the essence of its pictorial image by developing a painted surface that is rich in color, structure, balance, form, design, polarity, which demonstrates geometric elements in contrast to a more spontaneous flow of paint that encircles the composition.
