About The Artwork

Many of us have had the unique experience of traveling a New York City subway train in a rush hour period. The train is packed with people trying to juggle their body space next to and between their fellow traveler. The subway hour reflects mostly well-intentional individuals testing their human capacity for fortitude, courage, discipline and patience in a confined space, with the least amount of vertical poles, horizontal rails to grab onto, or as in the good ‘old’ days the limited strap hangers to desperately clutch or grasp. The train arriving at point x picking up the passengers and arriving at some y point, demands our utmost vigilance as we refrain from annoyance, steel our emotions, and secretly pray for our station destination to sooner than later arrive. Our soon to end journey requires each of us to scan the crowded bodies around us and stimulates our next major decision of the morning, as to which exit door is within our potential reality to reach and survive, without stumbling, falling, being stepped on or inadvertently violating the physical and emotional world of a fellow passenger.
