I made this drawing in order to express my reasons for immigration to New Zealand. Poor environmental situation in Russia has forced me to look for a better place that would ensure a better health and future for my child. So I pictured my vision of searching a new world.

Maria Bozina is a New Zealand artist who works mostly in hyper-realism and surrealism using different types of media such as oil, charcoal, ink or acrylic on paper, canvas or wood. Maria was born in Russia, in 1979 and grew up in Siberia. She studied at the Biysk School of Fine Arts where she majored as a portrait artist. She worked professionally in the field of graphic design and advertising. In 2009, Maria immigrated to New Zealand wither her family. In 2014 she was graduated as a Bachelor of Creative Technologies at Weltec. Maria is passionate about making hyper-realistic portraits using charcoal or oil paint: “I find it the most fascinating and challenging to achieve shapes, emotions, and environment of reality on canvas.” However, she constantly experiments with different kind of medium and materials, searching for exclusive way of self-expression.
