This painting/collage is about fleeting moments and nostalgia that inevitably ensues subsequent to the realization that all moments and thus life itself is slipping by quickly. Completing this piece during the few days of full moon in September, the thought that we're all just passing through became more and more prominent, as the absurdity of our amnesia of this very clear fact made me want to capture the thought in this visual form. My work has always been about fully dedicating each moment to the craftsmanship itself, and creating this piece in particular was a reminder for me to live in that aware and alert space as much as possible. The process involved making this work entails layering several pieces of color paper, gluing them together, and peeling them off in both horizontal and vertical directions once the surface dried.

Young makes abstract paintings with paper. At the core of her practice, she explores the concept of impermanence as it relates to life, and the beauty of such mercuriality and unpredictability embedded in the life form. Techniques and process are key to expressing her intention as she unearths the essence of the theme of ephemerality by peeling away colored paper that was first meticulously layered and copiously built up. She is inspired by this process of building and removing intricate layers in order to reveal what is underneath and between – birthing something entire new from the ashes of destruction. In her body of work, melding her past experiences and passion together, Young combines elements from art, design, and craft. Young received her BA in Philosophy from Occidental College, and post graduate studies in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design. Her paintings have been exhibited and placed by galleries and collectors throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
