Are Paintings Disposable ? Print

As a maker of visual images, we use different materials and techniques. We use traditional art materials from painting on canvas and on special grade paper, to paints that are oil or water based, to soft and hard pencils, charcoal, pastels, etc.etc. We create compositions that fill up the surface we are working on, apply materials that create textural forms, that either form collage impressions of materials next to, overlapping one another, or a sort low relief that project off the 2-D surface. We often incorporate found or non-traditional objects and materials into a composition to give it an extra dimension of form, shape or semblance of peculiarity that in normal use, we would wipe our hands with and throw away. So, why not occasionally change definitions and play with reality and use normally disposal materials in a work of art to alter their function and create in the finished art form a new sense of permanence.
