Years ago, at a community garden in Alameda, I first encountered the boldy-colored hybrid Cala Lily. This photograph is from that moment. To photographers, the Cala Lily is a cliche. They draw us in like a magnet seduces a refrigerator. The Cala Lily's soft and flowing surfaces produce every imaginable reflection and shadow. The pedal is deep and holds a dark shadow, dramatically pierced by the plant's thick stigma, returning a broad range of light into the flower. Shot in 2015 on 35mm Provia transparency film. Processed using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop (2024).
