About The Artwork

For some time I'm intrigued by the river De Maas. I like its erratic course, its shape and the fact that it is the lifeline of the city. This time I struggled with the layout. I think there are about 7 or more layouts of the river, from which only 3 are visible. Quite a challenge, which I enjoyed very much. With three layouts visible, I could name the painting "Three times a lady" written by the Commodores. Just for sentimental reasons and pleasure. The layout of the city is imaginary, but the shape of the river is precisely drawn in three different sizes. The painting is made with acrylic paint and acrylic marker on canvas. Although not framed, its ready to hang on the wall.

Ivo Oranje is a Dutchman born in São Paulo in Brasil. For four years he studied dance at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague; a program in which, in addition to dance, other forms of art and culture are taught. After the conservatory he chose to study at the hotel school. He had a successful career in the hospitality industry, but after many years he decided to return to his original artistic background. Ivo Oranje paints modern, abstract and often colorful works on both large and small canvases. His themes often relate to cities in general, but to Rotterdam and São Paulo in particular. The materials he works with are acrylic paint on canvas in combination with markers, pencils, ink or oil pastel. In addition to painting, Ivo currently works as a personal counselor in healthcare in which he supports people creatively. Mark Rothko is a great inspiration. I love the way he thinks and paints. His favourite comment for me is: "I hope to paint something that will ruin the appetite of every son of a bitch who ever eats in that room". Something I can relate to as former waiter.
