About The Artwork

The Palace of Westminster is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world. With Big Ben's Elizabeth Tower at one end and the Victorian Tower at the other, its striking facade stretches for 287 metres alongside the River Thames. (Source: The Palace of Westminster Official guide) I wanted to bring a sense of fun and humour to this gothic masterpiece in the style of urban sketching, which would bring a sense of joy to the viewer. I was drawn to portraying the golden yellow glorious morning sun on the facade against a vibrant blue sky. The 'Palace of Westminster' quirky version is presently exhibited at the Leicester Museums and Galleries Open, People's Exhibition at New Walk Museum. Dimensions: Original drawing 16.5" x 11.7" | 42 x 29.7 cm (A3 unframed); 140Ib./300gsm watercolour paper, Winsor & Newton watercolours / Dip pen with Winsor & Newton Ink. The original drawing is framed in a warm golden colour which compliments the yellow facade. All hanging hardware is included.

I’m a modern artist specialising in portraits, landscapes and buildings, and recently children’s book illustration. My distinctive drawing style, full of fun, wit & whimsy, include such landmarks as Buckingham Palace with ‘A Right Royal Street Party’, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Sacre-Coeur, Big Ben and a London Skyline. My pictures are placed with the late H.M.The Queen, (with a letter of thanks from her Lady-in-Waiting). Well-known TV celebrities and sports personalities, including East Midlands BBC News presenter Anne Davies, Emma & Jonathan Agnew, and others. Currently I’m working on a series of oil painting portraits of musicians. People I love and admire, the pretty and the beautiful, alive and dead. I’m interested in capturing the feeling of beauty and the feeling of presence in a pared-down style; the character and the psyche without all the unnecessary details. Portraiture is an act of celebration. I want to make a personal tribute to icons of the past and present, immortalising them in paint for future generations to see. Giving viewers a picture of our time, and of themselves as reflected through the heroes of my painted faces. My pictures are currently placed with the Saatchi Gallery online and through my website at www.lizzyhewitt.com.
