About The Artwork
The pomegranite features in classical mythology. Persephone, the goddess of spring was abducted by Hades who wanted her for his wife, and taken to the underworld. After some time she was liberated, however, despite having eaten nothing during her stay, finally her hunger, and the trickery of hades himself bade her eat the single seed of a pomegranite. Eating even that tiny amount of the food of the underworls meant that she now had to spend at least some of the year there. Hence, spring disappears from the earth for part of the year, for winter to take over. When spring is liberated from Hades once more, flowers return to the earth. The painting here shows 'Spring' indoors, a red, claustrophobic room as the underworld and the temptation of the pomegranite.

Jill Hudson BA (HONS) Fine Art A graduate of Falmouth College of Arts, I live and work in Cornwall. As an artist I am interested in depicting the beauty of the inconsequential moment - A shaft of light across the floor, a shadow through the trees in the evening. I want to capture the essence of an image which otherwise might be overlooked. My art is about the landscape of life in all its forms - its fleetingness, its poetry, its loneliness, and its reality. I have traveled in Africa and South America and gain great inspiration from exploring - I paint wherever I go. In 2005 I spent time working with Raleigh International as their Expedition Artist in Chile. On leaving the project I trekked to glaciers in southern Chile, and also spent time on Easter Island.
