About The Artwork

The image of the river De Maas won’t let me go. I find the shape intriguing, besides the erratic course I see many figures in it. This time I wanted to use less colour and show the river as it is. The red dots represent places that are imported to me. My house, my former work and the residence of a dear friend. Drawing the map is always satisfying, but this time even more. I didn’t cover the whole painting to emphasise the running and location in the middle of town. The painting is painted with acrylic paint on canvas and (although on the picture not yet) framed.

Ivo Oranje is a Dutchman born in São Paulo in Brasil. For four years he studied dance at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague; a program in which, in addition to dance, other forms of art and culture are taught. After the conservatory he chose to study at the hotel school. He had a successful career in the hospitality industry, but after many years he decided to return to his original artistic background. Ivo Oranje paints modern, abstract and often colorful works on both large and small canvases. His themes often relate to cities in general, but to Rotterdam and São Paulo in particular. The materials he works with are acrylic paint on canvas in combination with markers, pencils, ink or oil pastel. In addition to painting, Ivo currently works as a personal counselor in healthcare in which he supports people creatively. Mark Rothko is a great inspiration. I love the way he thinks and paints. His favourite comment for me is: "I hope to paint something that will ruin the appetite of every son of a bitch who ever eats in that room". Something I can relate to as former waiter.
