- Biography I'm Oul(오울, 吳蔚). My first name is UL in alphabet, and family name is Oh in alphabet as official, but I don't like that alphabet H, so I use my name as Oul - this way is right to call myself because Koreans use their name oppositely(that family name goes to be in the first.), Yes, I was born in Seoul, the Republic of Korea and grew up in this beautiful town. I've seen many cringe-ugliness plus extreme exotic beauty through this city, as well as our lives are complicated by that, also myself's artworks say that. Oul has lived few countries along the United States of America, Hong Kong, Australia, also traveled in many places. Currently I've been settled down in Anyang city as a working place, but still based in Seoul. - Artist Statement My motivation and statement derive from a profound belief in continuous improvement, always looking towards brighter tomorrows while navigating through the complexities of today. I've traversed through periods of darkness, finding myself in a present that neither defines happiness nor unhappiness. In both figurative and abstract art, I strive for progress, each piece a step towards transcending the physical realm and delving into my cringe-beautiful world. Having traveled to eleven countries, I sought to discern the good from the bad, often resorting to street art as a means to escape the surrounding chaos. Art, akin to a potent drug, stitches together the fragments of my soul, offering solace amidst life's turbulence. My existence hinges on positivity, productivity, and efficacy; otherwise, I might as well cease to exist. Engaging with audiences fuels an exchange of energy, inviting discourse on the nuances of right and wrong. While art may not save lives, it offers respite from the mundanity of sex, politics, and sports. It provides a sanctuary for thoughtlessness and a platform for illumination. I paint, scream, dance, and revel in chaos, for within the disorder lies a semblance of meaning. Everything is interconnected, yet nothing truly matters—an ethos I channel into my punk-inspired works. The human ability to appreciate and share aesthetics sets us apart, urging me to wield my hands with greater purpose. Despite my aversion to labor, it serves as a catalyst for action, alongside passion and fantasy. I yearn to create freely, influenced by the blood and sweat of diverse cultures. In this twenty-first century, provocation incites desire, igniting a thirst for more.
