Abstract Botanical Watercolour painting on cold press paper. This work speaks to growth and the looming, taunting shadow of self doubt that can impose when one is most vulnerable. My work speaks to impermanence, the passing of time and the evocative reminders of that which is left standing. The garden in its organic state mirrors many facets of humanity - here we find parallels in the ebb and flow of life; in vulnerability, persistence and the work needed to clear the debris of the past. Watercolour and Gouache paint in a limited palette of yellow ochre, burnt umber, raw umber, lamp black and prussian blue. Small work on paper, matted and sleeved in plastic ready to be framed.

I always felt that I needed to paint realistic portraits and landscapes. This is what I aspired to do. As a student I did well with large acrylic portraits but it felt constricted, even painful. Angles, light, shadow, tone, depth - precision. I found watercolour when I needed an outlet for creativity while on maternity leave. Something I could drop if needed with a set up/take down suitable for life as a new mom. I found it freeing. The more I did of these small abstracts the more I felt myself in the work. My authentic self this time, not my thoughts. No insecurities. These works never have intention to begin with. They evolve naturally, and tend to play into my fascination with impermanence, the earth, decay and organic matter. My process is raw and unexacting by nature - the work, honest and representative of a truer more universal self.
