My work was inspired by the abstract expressionistic work of William De Kooning. Using a large brush and looking at a miniature still life of dried and crumbled flowers, I look deeply into the subject and magnify what would otherwise not be seen with the naked eye. I apply the oil paint using large expressionistic and colorful strokes on a base of cold wax mixed with pure pigment. The result is a vibrant quasi-abstraction that is full of depth and movement and gives the spectator more than just a beautiful painting. A contemporary painting with meaning and soul and left for interpretation by the viewer. I chose to paint an abstraction from life because it gives the painting more vibrancy, life, and spontaneity. As well abstract expressionistic strokes are very contemporary and bold. The base of cold wax mixed wit pure pigment gives the painting a beautiful vibrant color and adds transparency.
