About The Artwork

As a selfish artist I am looking to art as a rumination on the meaning of existence. For me the very best paintings are the beautiful workings. Like a mathematician trying for proofs, the lines and colors and images that are pioneering are of the most interest to me. I want to stumble across something of real consequence. I want to tap into the divine, that moment of flow when I become a conduit of creation. (See Our Afternoon or The Cowboy and the Crab Eagle or Homeschool and the Sea of Sharks or Dunken Unicorn) My greatest paintings feel like they aren’t mine. Like the god of paintings is just borrowing me as a creator. The beast of Art clawing its way out of my brush to the inevitability of its existence. Those paintings was always supposed to exist. They had to be, I had no choice but to let them happen. That is how it feels when the very best art works arrive. They are the easy, they are autonomous. This is not that painting. But I bet you’ll like it.

Amy Bernays lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Born in London, she graduated with a BA(honors) in Fine Art from Central St Martins College in 2001. Her paintings are landscapes of personal interaction; poems to the love of line. Working with non-linguistic communication such gesture, body language, lingering looks and gossip. Her work is anthropological and personal, ponderings on the great themes of life, love and leisure. AKA Amelia Bernays Pitti (what systemic sexism?)
