This painting is under an open submission for an exhibition at the moment. It will be available for purchase mid-April. Glen Prosen is one of the Angus Glens in the Scottish Highlands. This view is the road that leads to it. A quiet road, it is easy to find a rock to perch on and make colour studies in my sketchbook. We go every year and it never fails to inspire me. I work from my sketchbook paintings when back in my studio. Living in rural East Anglia, the landscape could not be more of a contrast. Here it is farmland and gentle rolling countryside. The Scottish Glens are wild ,untamed, rainy and of course midge territory, but dramatic and fascinating. The painting is on canvas laid on a wood panel. The piece is framed in a contemporary style, with a soft white painted wood edge frame. The artwork is shipped in a strong cardboard box and is wrapped in several protective layers of mostly recyclable materials.

www.chrissiehavers.com Represented by Cambridge Contemporary Art. The landscape is my main source of subject for painting - particularly the orderly impact on the landscape of human habitation and farming. The framework imposed by fencing hedges ditches etc and the impact these divisions have on the land is always interesting. Colours lent to the land for a few months by growing crops is another element. The rather harsh lemon of the rape or mustard crops, the cool blue of a linseed field, the effervescent mixture of echinacea flowers - all these colours provide problems for an artist. While they are very dramatic , visually they don’t sit well with the native trees and hedge colours, but I am drawn to them as a subject on exactly that account. This is what inspires my work - colour.
