About The Artwork
We create reality in a constant dance of simulation, prediction, and correction. Small zones of focus combine to suggest that reality is clear, like photos. I paint the fuzzy truth. Tokyo is a city of neighborhoods with small commercial streets like this one. At night the electric signs take over and tint every object and every person. I shoot my images as I walk. I prepare the painting's drawing back in my studio in Colorado, editing and painting digitally. I transfer that drawing onto my canvas and then begin to translate its glowing paths into oil paint.
