No Body Beats These Odds Painting

'No Body Beats These Odds' is the second of two still lifes, painted in the tradition of Philippe De Champaigne. A child's dummy (pacifier) is seen at the base of the now vertically inverted monolith with the skull balanced at it's peak. The monolith's height can not be traversed without meeting death; the skull blocks the way. A powerful spot light illuminates the configuration almost like an investigator's torch at a crime scene - an unsettling truth found. 'No Body Beats These Odds' is a quote from the late Christopher Hitchens who said about death; "Nobody beats these odds". I chose to change the first word 'Nobody' to 'No Body'; leaving the possibility of a surviving soul though the body returns to dust. 'No Body Beats These Odds is painted in oils with attention to detail.
