About The Artwork

New Village is part of an ongoing series started in 2009. The work explores color, graphic language and pattern. The paintings have exhibited in museums and been selected by museum curators for New American Paintings, a survey of contemporary painters. This particular painting is created on a beveled panel that appears to float from the wall. The bevel is painted a cadmium red. When light hits the edge it casts a faint glow onto the wall. Please see detail image. I am inspired by symbols, graphics, pattern and color as form of communication. This round, iconic, composition was inspired by open source communities and graphs. New Village is part of a permanent installation at Lambert International Airport. It was converted into a 30' terrazzo floor and featured in the Wall Street Journal. I continue to explore this series in hopes of finding new ways the color, patterns and symbols create a sense of Esperanto. Thank you for your time and interest in the work - Alicia LaChance
