About The Artwork

THE PAINTING SECTION OF THE DAVIS MUSEUM The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona Davis Lisboa, "Marcel Broodthaers 17", 2022, oil on canvas, 23,622 H x 23,622 W x 1,6 in D. (60 H x 60 W x 3,5 D cm). What/who inspired the work? Conceptually I was inspired by three images. The first was a photograph of Marcel Broodthaers taken by his wife Maria Gilissen during the filming of "Voyage à Waterloo" by Broodthaers, in July 1969. The second was "Autoportrait bien fait, mal fait, pas fait" (Self-portrait well done, poorly done, not done), assemblage, 1973, by Robert Filliou. The third element was a few commas taken from the plastic plate entitled "Cinéma Modèle" by Marcel Broodthaers. Formally, I was inspired by the German painter Neo Rauch. His work reflects the influence of socialist realism and has surrealist influences from Giorgio de Chirico and René Magritte.
