I paint people and animals frozen in time, children half asleep, hanging on the brink, all waiting for the dawn of something new. And as for animals I believe they are the link between the material world and the divine. In the eyes of an animal you can see that there is more to life than just indifferent nature. Animals are our teachers and can bring out the best in us. Animals touch our souls and we usher them in their short lives. This painting is an homage to eighteenth-century portraits of rulers with their dogs. In this painting, the king has stepped out of the frame, while his faithful, regal dog remains.
