Infantas by Alena Adamíková are girls of the “anticipated” beauty that usually hides in the soft features of a child. This type of beauty still lacks the “biological” purpose of being seen; on the contrary it epitomises the astonishment of things seen and discerned. For this reason the world depicts the models as a scenery of a country spinning around them, or builds up their features as a puzzle, adding images and symbols of their internal universe.

I have been doing portrait paintings for the last 20 years. I sometimes think that it is not just fascination, but it has turned into an obsession. I feel that I can react to the many different situations with the different interpretations of the face. I am convinced that I can read the trace of the life experience, but unfortunately not the story. I find the face as an interface between the inner and the outer world, but no one can get beyond that interface. My portrait paintings clearly express this feeling of the unreachable inner world of the portrayed person.
