"Hudson River Traipse" Painting

Conceptually, my work addresses how we perceive and define gestural painting and content hierarchy. Although each painting reflects a certain approach or idea on my part, I am constantly looking for a revelation during the painting process that informs its completion. The passages entailed in the artwork, while realized through accidental, intentional and mechanical applications of paint, ultimately reflect a genuine and thorough investigation of the significance of form. Paint strokes and shapes are never finessed, instead, new strokes and shapes (either masked off or used as descriptive or compositional elements) are employed in juxtaposition with existing form to clarify and embody the paintings, preserving the importance of each element in an egalitarian manner.
