Growing on Green Lane Painting

This piece is at The Saatchi Gallery on L2 until April 27th 2018. Haf Weighton is an artist living and working in Penarth, in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. Working with paint, print and stitch, her portraits convey a sensitivity and connection to a place, using the traditionally feminine language of thread to make marks over the traditionally male language of architecture, without dominance or desire to obscure or obstruct. But just enough to soften the spaces, giving them a more earthy, vibrant and altogether more human tone. As well as her home town, her work also references the other many places she has lived and experienced. Growing on Green Lanes recalls the colourful Turkish shop fronts, grape vines, olive and fig trees of this area of North London where the artists family lived for over a decade. ‘My love of travel and my own Welsh identity is a focus in my work, and draws on my experience of the different places I have called home.’ Hand framed in a solid wood, white grain frame. Hanging fixtures are attached.
