VIEW IN MY ROOM
What/who inspired the work? -Gravitational waves, which are disturbances in the curvature of space-time, generated by accelerated masses, that spread as waves outward from their source at the speed of light. Proposed by Henri Poincaré in 1905, predicted in 1916 by Albert Einstein, and on 11 February 2016, a scientific collaboration announced they had made the first direct observation of gravitational waves. - Salvador Dali's concepts of a union of art with science in the symbolic imagery of Einstein's relative time. -Expressionist colors and brushstrokes of Van Gogh to showcase emotion. What do I hope its viewers will feel/think? -Wonder at it all means at first. It may look appealing, it may remind one of Dali's melting clocks(which it does reference), but maybe by thinking back and seeing the symbols displayed one can see the making of many scientific discoveries in metaphor. -Isaac newton's fabled tale of the apple falling from a tree hitting the idea of universal gravity. -The apple here is shown falling at the speed of light, slowing down time to its perspective and making a splash that ripples in gravitational waves across all of space, till it eventually reaches us in a corner. Why did I choose the subject matter, style? - I chose the subject because I thought that capturing something scientifically important in art would creatively unite these arias, along with the philosophy that art/science is an element that genius artists(such as Leonardo Da Vinci) used to further their work. The observations of gravitational waves back in 2016 provided me the chance to experiment in integrating art/science/philosophy, in a symbolic/surreal/expressionist way, a triple mix style that I call Integralism.
