Garland Painting

Garland came about whilst sitting in my daughter's garden one Summer's afternoon. I had taken her a bunch of roses but they were such beautiful colours and smelt so sweet that I really wanted to capture something of them before I left. We tried photographing them in a bunch, then with their stems, all in a row, but always mindful that they were a gift and trying not to damage them. Nothing worked for me and so in the end I had the idea to just take the whole bunch back for myself and remove all the heads. It was my fear that had been holding the composition back. I had to buy her a new bunch of flowers but I learned that I needed to overcome my adult worrybrain and engage my child's playbrain and be brave in order to get what I knew in my heart I wanted. I hope you can feel the summer sunshine and smell the beautiful fragrance in these vibrant flowers and take your own step into the unknown.
