About The Artwork
This painting is an original in acrylics, in bright and neon colors. It is inspired by the recent story of a 7-year old Italian student who recently coined the new word ‘petaloso’ that means “full of petals”. Actually 'petaloso', not in Italian but in Latin, was used in 1695 by the famous English botanist, James Petiver, in a book of botanical falsifications. Petiver, in his London pharmacy, received several plant samples that came from 'India, and to describe one of these exotic plants he wrote ‘petal flower’. I always like to add the physical component to my paintings, so I used different mediums such as sand and gesso to create a textured effect. The canvas could/should be mounted and framed.

Alessia Sersanti was born and raised in Rome, Italy, in 1973 where she learned how to paint from her mother who was a local artist in Rome during the 70’s. She is a painter and a fashion designer. As a painter, she studied Renaissance painting techniques from a local artist in Rome, where she developed a love for the expressive potential of abstract art. As a designer, she designed a line of luxury women’s handbags for the Asian market entirely manufactured in Italy and launched her own brand in 2017. Alessia currently lives with her family in Kirkland, WA working as a professional artist.
