About The Artwork
The Australian outback landscape has a spaciousness, a mystery and a particularly notable brightness. Gum trees are ubiquitous and embody the character of this land. Inspired by contemporary landscape painters including Luke Scibberas and Fred Williams, Brett Whiteley and John Olsen, the sensuous forms, and bold colours on the canvas connect humanity with the environment in fresh ways. Poetry and prose of artists including Keats, Les Murray, Mary Shelly, who write about the landscape, transports me while I'm painting in the studio. I hope the viewer will get a sense of the energy of the outback.
