Eurydice At The Opening Painting

Eurydice Orpheus travels to the Underworld, the kingdom of Hades, to reclaim, retrieve his wife, Eurydice. He lulls Hades, through his art in music, Hades agrees to let Orpheus take Eurydice back to the living world but, as they journey to the upper world and as she follows him into the light, he must not look back. Orpheus believes the Gods have forsaken and deluded him, his belief, that it is only Eurydice, in form of shadow that follows him. As he resurfaces from the underworld, he turns to look back, he sees Eurydice and, in that turn, he has lost her forever. Garden of the Heart (Amaranthus) At the bottom of the hill, there lies a small garden. Enclosed by a wall, gated and locked. The garden is moonlit, shadowy, silent. It is winter, and plants show no presence, above ground. They lie hidden, earthbound, cold. They await the spring sun, and its eventual rise above the hill. Then once again, the gate will be unlocked, the garden will be tended, cared for, loved. And in this warmth, shoots will rise, foliage will strengthen, and in turn, flower.
