From the series "Musical impressions from the music of Camille Saint Saens." Camille Saint-Saëns’s music is viewed as a classic piece with a serious undertone. However, Camille Saint-Saëns himself was an unusually cheerful person, living his life to its fullest. Humor together with irony accompanied the composer his whole life. He wrote a comical suite for an ensemble, named “Carnival of Animals”. He called his masterpiece a “Great zoological fantasy”. “Elephant”. This majestic animal is represented by the lowest sounding instrument in the orchestra, the double bass. He performs graceful themes in parodies at a slow pace, with the accompaniment of the three-beat waltz of the piano, from the music of Felix Mendelssohn to Hector Berlioz. The irony is that Saint-Saëns entrusted these melodies to those originally written by composers for high-sounding instruments, such as the violin and the flute, to a heavy-sounding double bass. This creates the image of the Elephant trying on pointe shoes, beginning to perform ballet “Pa”.
