Dorothy Gale Painting

It feels like American Gothic, Dorothy stands illuminated by the setting sun in her Sunday Best. Her expression is stern and flat like the old, stiff faced photos from the turn of the century. Instead of her hair being brown it is black and tied with two blue ribbons that offset the dominant, warm tones of the picture. As an artist, with a great passion for films and painting, I always find myself playing with the imaginary casting of characters. Which actor/actress feels like they would fit in this role or that? I've always thought Christina Ricci would have been a terrific Dorothy. With eyes like opals, that echo the likes of Betty Davis, and the figurine features of Lillian Gish, Ricci's face is a reflection of a bygon eara. Combine Ricci's features with her portrayal of Wednesday Addams, with all her Victorian numbness, and you get a very poignant likeness of the folks who whethered the dustbowl or settled in, the epic dullness that is,
