About The Artwork

Inspired by last day of vaction in Cyprus, October 2020, the pandemic year. Booking the break was replete with logisitcal risks but worth it. A tranquil escape. Psychologically optimistic painting, made with Affect Theory ideas of Affect Imagery Consciousness in mind. We can see the moon during the day for the same reason we see the moon at night. The surface of the moon is reflecting the sun's light into our eyes. When we see the moon during the day it's because the moon is in the right spot in the sky and it's reflecting enough light to be as bright, or brighter, than the sky. These minimal compositions take on board elements of positive Affect Theory - a theory that seeks to organize affects, sometimes used interchangeably with emotions or subjectively experienced feelings, into discrete categories and to typify their physiological, social, interpersonal, and internalized manifestations.

An existential dialectic may be detected from ruminations on the metaphysical aspects of time and space. I seek to instil a pure sense of wonder in my work intended to guide the viewer to tap into the sublime, celebrating the mental faculty that enables man to be transported by Art. I am particularly fond of a David Lynch quote postulating that the restrictions of the film making process do not apply to the field of painting and that indeed ‘painting is infinite’. The ultimately levelling template of the void is inherent at the core of everything i make."
