About The Artwork
Crevice was inspired by the shapes left behind from wind, rain and erosion of the western desert landscape. I am in awe how nature creates beauty. We think of erosion as a bad thing but it is an amazing process that creates an ever-changing beauty over time. This painting was created using a palette knife with oil paint and finished with an oil stick. The surface is smooth with light touches of texture. I like to play with the varying degrees of matte and glossiness by mixing differing amounts of powdered marble into the paint. A wire will come attached to the back of the deep canvas. It is a stretched deep canvas and a wire is attached to the back. Signature is on the right bottom side of canvas.

As a minimalist artist, I find inspiration in capturing the essence of Earth's organic elements through silhouettes and simplified shapes. I celebrate the inherent beauty of rock formations, flowers, and water, blending well-defined shapes with expansive negative spaces to create intriguing compositions. ~~ Bio Laura Welshans is a multi-media abstract artist residing in Little Rock, Arkansas. She has exhibited her artwork in juried group shows like the 61st Delta Exhibition of the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts and The Other Art Fair in Dallas and Chicago as well as showcased her work in numerous solo exhibitions throughout her home state of Arkansas. She received a fellowship from Artist INC and selected for the Jen Tough Gallery Collective in Santa Fe, NM. Her work belongs to collections including CARTI Cancer Center and The Haywood Hotel. Laura shares her passion by teaching at the CreatorFest summer camp. She has received juried art awards and included in many publications.
