About The Artwork

A vibrant original painting on canvas. ON EXHIBITION from 13 July to Aug 13 2023 at Patchings Gallery, Nottinghamshire. This painting was previously exhibited at The Mall Galleries in London. The painting is framed and ready to hang. The wood frame is in a contemporary style and painted a soft white. This subject is really one of my favourites. It is a boggy meadow in SW Scotland that used to be the property of an old friend. I would take my sketchbook every time I visited her and standing with care in some part of it would make painting studies. I have quite a collection of these now! This painting comes from one of those sketchbook paintings. They are an invaluable source of reference material for me, and bring back happy memories of the place. This painting employs a warm autumn palette. The tangle of tall grasses and shrubs all mixed up together makes a wonderful lead in to the turning colour of that deep pink tree. Beyond is visible just a bit of the nearest hillside. The painting is securely shipped in a sturdy cardboard box. Thankyou for looking.

www.chrissiehavers.com Represented by Cambridge Contemporary Art. The landscape is my main source of subject for painting - particularly the orderly impact on the landscape of human habitation and farming. The framework imposed by fencing hedges ditches etc and the impact these divisions have on the land is always interesting. Colours lent to the land for a few months by growing crops is another element. The rather harsh lemon of the rape or mustard crops, the cool blue of a linseed field, the effervescent mixture of echinacea flowers - all these colours provide problems for an artist. While they are very dramatic , visually they don’t sit well with the native trees and hedge colours, but I am drawn to them as a subject on exactly that account. This is what inspires my work - colour.
