Ardnamurchan Lighthouse is a watercolour painting on Saunders Waterford High White paper. This painting reflects a windy and sunny day at the most westerly point on the British mainland. The journey to this point was an adventure, it took us five hours down a single track lane to reach our destination. The views and feel of the place were spectacular and made the arduous journey worthwhile. However, the cafe and visitor centre was closed when we got there. As five hours had passed we were quite hungry and thirsty, so we visited a cafe nearby that had grape vines growing inside the conservatory and we had a wonderful leek & potato soup. A little bit of historical data about the lighthouse: 'The 36 metre granite tower soars 55 metres above the rocks, and was built in 1849 using granite from the Island of Mull. It was designed by Alan Stevenson, uncle of Robert Louis Stevenson, whose family designed most of Scotland’s lighthouses over a period of 150 years. It is the only lighthouse in the world designed in an “Egyptian“ style. Like all the other lighthouses in Scotland, Ardnamurchan now operates automatically, but the tower remains fully operational and still plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of all ships navigating the waters off Scotland’s west coast.' (Ardnamurchan Lighthouse website) This artwork is framed and ready to hang on your wall. There is a time lapse video on YouTube depicting the process of painting this watercolour artwork, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0KnfIOMoh8

I studied English Literature BA (Hons) at university and I went on to do a Creative Writing course with the Open University. This led me to becoming a writer of children’s books, in particular I enjoy creating picture books. Gradually the picture became my focus and I started to create an Illustrator’s portfolio. The subject matter I work with varies from representing shape and form to intricate details. I am fascinated with nature and its’ various forms, whether it be wild animals, the wilderness, the weather or our pets. These themes compel me to create art. I have a love and deep respect for nature in all its forms, I hope these feelings permeate into the drawings via my brush or pencil. Illustrators such as Axel Scheffler, Alexis Deacon and writers such as Thoreau, Wordsworth, William Blake and George MacDonald inspire my artwork.
