About The Artwork
This painting was made for an exhibition at Durden and Ray in Los Angeles entitled Arcadia: Visions and Prophecies. The painting was featured in the Los Angeles Times Date Book section during the run of the show. The painting is inspired by work I have done with Amazonian shamans and Burmese buddhists. It seeks to create a visual dialogue between mystic spiritual traditions from South East Asia and South America and the Classical Western Canon. What is difficult to capture is the way the piece changes depending on the light source and the angle the viewer looks at the work. It can be illuminated at night using ultraviolet lights to give a view similar to altered states of consciousness.
