About The Artwork

When I was little, I always related the colors navy blue, white and gray, with the school uniforms, since the uniform of my elementary school had these colors and sometimes, not a few, it annoyed me; today, those memories underlie but in a different way, that "uniformity" that used to bore me, now brings me strange evocations of Mondrian and his pictorial compositions, always ordered in a dynamic balance constituted by the line and the basic color; I dispense with the line and give color the primary importance; those colors that before seemed monotonous to me now attract me for their simplicity, but above all for their sobriety; Even if the strokes are clumsy on any surface or plane, it is the color that determines the sensory and emotional state; abstract 227 evokes sobriety in me, with the mixture of navy blue and black, a sobriety that also has an air of refinement; in the end, uniformity brings me to sobriety and this to refinement.

Christian Calvillo had his first approaches to painting at the age of 16. Obtained a degree in photography from the Universidad Iberoamericana in 2006; Obtained a degree in painting from the University of Guanajuato in 2008. Lived in Florence studying Renaissance influences in modern art in 2011. His work has two facets: the abstract aspect where color and shape represents human perceptions and reactions through patterns and color. The figurative aspect shows how currenlty the condition of human thought and ideology is in a frantic change due to the influence of the expressions on the various media and how it translates this expressions in ironic and descriptive manifestations of pop and street art.
