About The Artwork
This is a vibrant piece with a flat texture yet, through layering, the creation of depth. It came to life through an intuitive and zen approach. The work was created through Buddhist breathwork and a space of liberation, finding a way through a difficult period of time, walking the middle way. There is a sense of excitement, danger, bright energy, and yet a paradoxical calmness as you walk through it. As with all my pieces, though, it is a presentation of complex emotions and human experiences, providing a unique emotional draw and journey carried and walked by the individual observing each piece— none of our two journies are the same; we can see the same thing in different ways.

Matthew Braunginn is an emerging artist from Madison, WI. He comes from a mixed-race family with a rich history in civil rights activism and the arts. Long loved art in many forms, from playing the saxophone to taking ceramics in high school, but Matthew stumbled across painting, looking for a new creative outlet in 2017, and it quickly became something more. Through the journey, and reflected within the paintings of profound emotional expressions, Matthew has used painting in abstract expressionism to work through new diagnoses of being on the Autism spectrum and with an autoimmune disorder.
