Model Posing Drawing

This is a piece based on a light sketch that I have done, years ago, in a live model drawing class. The assignment had been to produce an accurate, academic drawing of the human body, but the rather awkward pose of the model inspired me to apply some deformations to her shape and imagine her in a setting more suited to her look. The quick sketched enabled me to then go on to the proper assignment, but then I never had a chance to finish my vision until recently, when I have stumbled upon that sketch. As I believe that our stories hold more truth to what we are than the mere appearance of our bodies, I think that this portrait does more justice to the young model that seemed to fall asleep in front of a group of eager art students more than ten years ago. The drawing is in charcoal and shading pastels on rough recycled paper.
