Hackney Empire - Transition c Artwork - Limited Edition of 80

This is a redo of work I did many, many years ago. As part of a project for the Hackney Empire Theatre in London, to celebrate their renovation, I created this series of images. I got access to original drawings commissioned by Frank Matcham, who was important in designing so many Empire theatres, and I photographed them. I then photographed the building inside and out and combined the images. Many folk think this is about architecture but for me this is about ideas. It really interests me about ideas and the journey people go through to realise their ideas. When we have ideas, there are many feelings we go through to realise these ideas and the end result is never the same as what was in our minds at the beginning. This work reflects that and it too has gone through this process. The original architectural drawings have been adapted to reflect my idea and are not exactly the same as what was photographed. The work I have put here is also not the same as what I did all those years ago. I wanted to go back to this body of work and use the new skills I have acquired over the years and get closer to my original, vision as well as use some new ideas I have had since. I also sell original prints, made to the standard I want the work to be seen at. The prints I have made are on smooth art paper, of an archival quality acid-free German rag paper with a smooth finish. The 300gsm paper is bright white, ensuring accurate colour-reproduction.
