About The Artwork
This Mixed-Media Collage is dedicated to poet Sylvia Plath, a brave woman who suffered pain so deeply until she could no longer bear it anymore. I also thank my friend, photographer Shane Edgar for giving me the inspiration to create it when I lived in Devon. I've used different sizes of a butterfly I painted and different sizes of an oil painting of a poppy I painted long ago, using enamel and mulberry paper to give the flowers depth and textures. I used bark for the trunk of the oak tree, lichens, dried oats and odd fabrics for the far-off hedgerows, distant fields and the roof of the building. The painting itself was mostly done using acrylic on 20" x 20" hardboard which I plan to frame in an old window retrieved from a house built long ago.

I was born in South Africa and then studied for at Rhodes University under professor Brian Bradshaw. I lived in Northwestern British Columbia, Canada for 9 years. and during that time opened an art gallery (with gift shop), and a working studio where I painted and taught people to do the same. Although being a landscape painter using pastel has been a lifelong love, I now explore other media in an effort to express my strong thoughts and emotions\ .
