‘Cardboard Sunflowers’ is an interpretation of Van Gogh's Sunflower painting, using cardboard techniques to create pattern, texture and form. This artwork is an attempt to see how traditional colour painting would translate through the cardboard process. I chose Van Gogh’s Sunflowers as it was already an iconic and perfectly balanced work, allowing me to focus purely on developing my cardboard technique. I hope the viewer of the artwork will see something new everytime they look at the work. The work continues to subtly explore themes within my practice of art, value and the environment.

I work with the medium of cardboard to create large scale 3D sculptural pieces. I've been working with this medium since I became a right leg amputee over 20 years ago. The accessibility of working with cardboard allows me to create sculptures in smaller sections that can be assembled into a large scale piece. This journey of working with cardboard has created an accessible method that I have been able to teach when working with others.
