VIEW IN MY ROOM
This work possesses a strong Chinese style. The woman in cheongsam, wearing a flower on her head and holding a fan, lies in an old-fashioned Chinese reclining chair. The laid-back expression she betrays comes across as impressive. What the artist creates here – the woman’s attire, the Chinese cheongsam, the fan and the old-fashioned reclining chair – all represent an era in the Chinese history. In the 1950s and 60s in China, women wearing this sort of attire were generally born to a rich and influential family; they behaved themselves in a dignified, generous and decent manner. Similarly, contemporary artists break through the monotonous coloration of bronze works in the past, and boldly resort to emerald green, yellowish green, red, orange, rose gold, antique brass and other colors, blending them in harmony and thus better highlighting the characteristics of contemporary artworks.
