VIEW IN MY ROOM
This piece is principally about human induced climate change and consequent sea level rise. The coastal regions of the world are crowded with structures and buildings which serve as monuments to humanity’s great civilisation, and which, like King Cnut, draw a line which we challenge nature to cross. The title ‘Ozymandias Revisited’ takes its name from the poem by Shelley, a warning to the hubris of those dazzled by their own short-lived worldly power, as our mightly edifaces of only serve to illustrate the fragility and transitory nature of the human world in the face of the erosive power of the sea. The mo'ai like statue is a reference to the fate of the easter islanders. Drawn with nib and fibre tip pen on textured watercolour paper.
