Tony Yin Tak Chu

About

Tony came to Canada from Hong Kong in 1996. Since graduating from the Visual Arts program at ECIAD in 2006, his work has revolved around his cultural identity as a Chinese descendant. While primarily a painter, various processes are employed including digitized images. In fact, Tony is interested in using different medium to create a piece of work involving sound, images and audiences. According to him, without the viewers’ responses, work is boring. In January 2011, Tony made his first installation art at a public space in Richmond’s Lansdowne Shopping Centre. Later the same year, he had his first solo exhibition at a commercial gallery, Hunter Bisset, as well as a Container Art at PNE, both in Vancouver. Tony also ran Pick up a Pencil, a workshop on discussion, social interaction and drawings, a monthly event at Richmond Art Gallery in 2011. With a few like-minded friends from the workplace, the Richmond Printmakers group was formed in early 2012 and became one of the resident art groups at Richmond Cultural Center. Read More
