Tears for Fears' famous song came onto the radio one morning, and this suddenly appeared in my brain. I liked the duality of the wordplay – the original phrase speaks to those singular oppressive (mostly male) egos in the world who are more interested in ruling it than fixing it. The other reading of the phrase is its literal optimism, acknowledging the many that do want to take action on climate change. This work was selected by Grayson Perry to be hung in the Royal Academy as part of the Summer Exhibition 2022.
